Dave Whelan Stands Firm Over Martinez

Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan applauds the supporters following the Barclays Premier League match between Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers at DW Stadium.

Oh Big Dave Whelan, how football would be boring with out you. Not to mention the fact that there wouldn't be a Wigan Athletic without him. But for the moment that is beside the point. Whelan isn't known for being a quite man, and is always rather out spoken. But we wouldn't want him another way.

Over the past few days Whelan has come out and bascially told the world that Roberto will not be going anywhere this summer, unless it is a big big club. Basically he wants a big club to pay out his contract, along with the fact that he has started to remarkable things with the club. I don't think any of us want to see Roberto walk.

The Growing List of Roberto Martinez's Suitors

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez shakes hands with the supporters following the Barclays Premier League match between Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers at DW Stadium.

The season only finished two day's ago, and already there is a growing list of clubs that are following after our hot young manager. Roberto Martinezhas yet again done nothing more than a miracle with the resources and the players, to turn them around from a team that looked like having no hope of survival, to ending the season as the Premier League's in form team (more about that and what happened, next week when I sit down to right our season up).

So with that said a host of clubs have been and are being linked with Martinez and just as a public service, I thought it would be nice to list all of the clubs that have been linked with the manager and what the situation with those clubs are, and if it is likely for him to go there. So watch this article as it will keep being updated!

View From the outside- Refs Stink Edition

50254_103936619639535_705_n_medium

Coming from a supporter of a big club, you'd think I'm used to the the refs giving the club every call that they can? Yes, but the calls at Chelsea were panned world wide. Well unless, you are a Blue, and if you are, well, that stinks for you. After the jump, let's see what the week has for Wigan.

Fa to Take Action

Branislav Ivanovic of Chelsea celebrates his second goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Aston Villa and Chelsea at Villa Park.

Well at least they are doing something about what happened at the weekend to Wigan. Firstly the linesman which missed both of the offside goals by Chelsea has been 'rested' for a week. Much like Mark Clattenburg was after his performance in the Wigan-Blackburn game.

But that is not the issue that I am mainly referring to. The one in hand is that of Ivanovic punch into the chest of Shaun Maloney. I missed the incident initially until it was pointed out to me later on, where you can clearly see the Chelsea defender hit our midfielder, in the lead up to their second goal.

Good to see justice being done. Even if it is a bit late.

Gomez Deal Excites Martinez

Jordi Gomez of Wigan scores from the penalty spot during the Barclays Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic.

I don't know what it is about Jordi Gomez that Roberto Martinez likes so much. Yet whatever Jordi is doing seems to stand him in good stead as the 'Donkey' has managed to net a new contract at the club. Now I maybe to harsh on the player at times, he is a talented footballer I wont knock him for that. Yet it is his lack of effort and knowledge of how to play the Premier League game.

You could understand in his first season. Where he was playing with the big boys and I could imagine it would have taken time to adapt. The second year he started promisingly and then yet again dipped down, before disappearing out of the squad.

This season he maybe our top goalscorer but he hasn't contributed anywhere near what we have needed. It shows when Shaun Maloney was able to get on the pitch for twenty minutes against Norwich and do more running around the pitch than Gomez had all season.

Hugo Rodallega Confirms Exit

Hugo Rodallega (R) of Wigan is congratulated by teammate Conor Sammon (L) after scoring a goal from a free kick during the Barclays Premier League match between Queens Park Rangers and Wigan Athletic at Loftus Road

Our all time leading Premier League goalscorer has confirmed that these look likely to be the last three months of his time at Wigan Athletic. The Colombian striker has been a fan favorite since arriving at the club, and his exit would be one of mixed emotions for most Wigan fans.

He has been a work horse for most of the times, and at others has come up with some fantastic goals that have kept the club in the position we are today. Yet at times he has failed to score the easiest of tap ins, and so far this season he has been way below par for the club.

Nicky Maynard and Jean Beausejour close to Wigan Moves

BRISTOL, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 27: Nicky Maynard of Bristol City during the npower Championship match between Bristol City and Reading at Ashton Gate.

Well its getting there, these two deals, that I said yesterday were close to being confirmed have today been confirmed that both players are in talks with Wigan about possible moves. The two players would be fine additions to our attacking options, and the step up to Premier League I don't see as much of a big one for either player.

So what are we close to signing.
