I have and a week where I have not been able to sit down and type up articles for the site, never fear a full coverage of the past two games and my thoughts are on their way. But first here is a brief (hopefully) look of the great, fantastic and even amazing week that Wigan Athletic have had.
It all started last Sunday at 3:55pm GMT. Wigan Athletic of the Premier League would take on Huddersfield Town of the Championship in the FA Cup fifth round. Two hours later and Wigan Athletic walked away 4-1 victors as they sailed into the quarter finals of the FA Cup, a feet we have only once achieved before. A tie against either Everton or Oldham awaits.
A week on, and a stronger Wigan side were yet again producing the goods. This time an away fixture at Reading was the game, and three points the aim. That was accomplished with three goals, two in the first half from Arouna Kone, and a sublime third from Maynor Figueroa as Latics yet again strolled.
That win takes us out of the relegation zone on goal difference and closes the gap on Southampton to just three points. Are we at it again? Would you bet against us? Lets not count our chickens too early but the signs are looking good.
Two wins on the spin and good form in the overall team is a great sight to see. Especially when your new striker manages to bag four goals in two games. If Kone can keep that up till the end of the season, we will be laughing. Especially when we have a striker in Franco Di Santo who can not score no matter how well he plays.
Franco had a superb again against Reading and was unlucky not score once, let alone twice. It will come for the big man, and the good news is that he is getting into those positions to score, and long may that continue.
To see that happen though, Wigan need to sign players like Franco onto long term contracts. Currently there are five first team players who could walk at the summer. At the moment Roberto Martinez isn't sweating over the situations and wants to wait till Latics are trouble free before sitting the players down.
A reasonable solution, so long as none beats us to it.
The other big news out of the DW, is Martinez's continued interest in Aiden McGeady. The Irish winger was all but signed in January before pulling out at the last minutes. Now it looks like Martinez will go for the player again in the summer, that is if we stay in the Premier League.
