He comes from Austria and yet again he is a Wiganer! Paul Scharner!
Many fans maybe sceptical about this one. Why bring in the defender if Roman Golobart is as good as he is, and with Antolin Alcaraz and Adrian Lopez now only weeks away. The answer is simple team morale, what the defender/midfielder/striker is boost in the dressing room, and hopefully amoungst most of our fans.
Paul is a player who can play anywhere on the park, and litterly did in his time for Wigan. The only position he didn't fill was goalkeeper, I bet he would still be good at that! Yet his ability to be versitile gives you a player who can slot in when you have injuries or suspensions anywhere on the pitch.
Hopefully though he will come in and play at center back for us. With Emmerson Boyce unlikley to be back for the weekend, Scharner maybe called upon with his experience. Again something else he adds is an experienced head to the team, something that we do need more of.
All round this is a great move, and hopefully we can see some of those great Scharner moment against in the blue and white of Latics.
