Franco Di Santo is in the form of his life.
It went quick didn't it, the first month back with three games (four if you include the Stoke game, which for this I am going to), and it just went. Before you know it we are at the International break and all the players get a two week break. Not that it came at the best time for Latics, as we now look to face Manchester United at Old Trafford, following a period where our players disappear to all the four corners of the globe.
But enough about the future. What really (or should I say who) really inspired you in the first month of the season? Was their a big stand out name who you just thought, woah I want to see more. Here is my shortlist of four, please feel free to comment with your own additions and I will add them to the poll.
Ali Al Habsi - When won't this guy get a mention. That is probably when he retires from the game, but even then he will still be mentioned. The Omani international is of course a fans favorite and yet again continued to show why through out August in four fine displays. All round consistency and top performances with those great aerobatic saves. Truly world class.
Franco Di Santo - Last season this boy had a great start to the season and then lost it towards the middle, to then finish great. Hopefully the Argentinian striker will continue his great goal scoring form. Having played three games this season, he has scored two already. Who would have thought that when we signed him for £1.2 million from Chelsea and only one Premier League goal to his name.
Arouna Kone - We needed someone new to replace Victor Moses, and it looks like the £3.5 million signing from Levante could be a great coup. He has not stopped moving, or creating chances and could go on to have a great season for the club. So far he has notched one goal and one assist for the team, not a bad return. Considering it took Moses till December to get his first goal last season.
Shaun Maloney - Now when I first looked at Shaun's month I though unusually quite for the talented midfielder. Yet then I took a deeper look, against Southampton he was our best player going forward in terms of finding the spaces, eventually that paid off setting up Di Santo for the first. Then against Stoke City the player was the man who found the space to allow James McCarthy to well 'win the penalty', before Maloney slotted it home. So not a bad month, even though we know he can do better.
