Weekly Poll: Can we do it? Can we Survive again?

Conor Sammon of Wigan Athletic celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Wigan Athletic and West Ham United at the DW Stadium.

You voted and I hold my head high to be a Wigan follower. With over 60% of you keeping the faith saying we can stay up and fight our way out of the relegation zone. Its that kind of attitude from our fans that helped the last last year to lift their game on the pitch, and pull our four of our best performances last season.

This time we have to start early and get behind the lads now, so we can start to get points on the board and away from the dreaded bottom three of the Premier League.

Star-divide

Year after year, we are always tipped to go down. And year after year we have proven that we will not go down and will stay in the Premier League with our heads held high. This time last year I was having doubts if we could do it. The side we had, didn't seem to have the spark or the fight of ones gone by, and I felt for all the world we were doomed.

But then, after a poor deafet to Arsenal away at the end of January. We played West Brom as our first game of February and managed to hold out for a 2-2 draw after being ahead and being the better side. Ring any bells? We then went on to play our local rivals Blackburn at home, and tore them to pieces, eventually winning the game 4-3.

Those bells going crazy. Well what about a tough match against one of the in form Premier League sides. Last season we faced Liverpool away at Anfield for our third game in February, this time its Aston Villa at home.

All the signs are there that we are slowly bursting into life towards the end of the season. Which is good given the situation we are in and getting three points from this weekends game is a must if we are to have any chance of putting pressure on the teams around us.

Do I feel confident this time round? No, but I am a Wigan fan and they never fill me with confidence. But that is onyl to be expected.
